DEC Winter Bat Research at Williams Lake 2016

In February, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) visited the Williams Lake property for their ongoing research of the Indiana Bat population, which hibernate throughout the Williams Lake property.

We recently expanded land under permanent conservation easement by over 100 acres, which comes to a total of 515 acres. Critical habitat for endangered bat species is now protected forever.

Here are some stunning photos from their most recent trip to measure the body fat of 20 little brown bats. They also used a UV light to observe any presence of the fungal pathogen that causes White Nose Disease.

All photos were taken by the DEC, and we are thankful for their ongoing effort to monitor the bats.
